Our route from
Moab to Bryce Canyon took us through Capitol Reef National Park and
along Utah 12 Scenic Byway. The driving was easy and the
scenery spectacular. We stopped at Capitol Reef to view the
pictographs and take a leisurely walk along the riverbank. |

There were many
pictographs on the cliffs, and a walkway leading up to the
viewpoint. We have always been very impressed by the excellent
quality of the American National Parks and the standard of their
viewpoints. Frequently the visitor is provided with information
boards and sometimes a Ranger is around the area to give you personal
and helpful information and answer your questions. The National
Park Authority should be very proud of the way they look after their
parks and the way they cater for their visitors. I am always
amazed that an annual subscription covers admission to all parks for
the subscriber, his car and three passengers. This currently
costs $80US and can be purchased on line or by phone. I use the
phone as it is much easier. Google for details. |

Utah Scenic Route
12 covers diverse landscapes, from forest to mountains to scrub land
and red rocks and bluffs. These aspens, sagebrush and pines
were between Capitol Reef and Boulder. |

At Boulder
Mountain we encountered snow at 9,600 feet. We also found bear
tracks in the snow! |
