ST THOMAS AND ST JOHN

St John was by far the prettiest island we visited. We took a taxi from the ship, along the coast to catch the ferry, which was around a twenty minute trip. St John was clean, unspoiled and there were no crowds. Just the place for a longer stay. Immediately we arrived at Cruz Bay we were in love with this island.

We took a taxi for a tour of the island, starting along the sandy beaches of the north coast. This was everything you hope from a Carribean island, with empty beaches and deep blue waters.
Along this coast are some very select properties, owned by the likes of Madonna and other mega-rich personalities. Much of the island is a National Park, donated by the Rockefeller family. We also visited the ruins of an old sugar mill.

There are individual parking spaces alongside the road, between the trees leading to the beach. On another visit we would hire a car and spend the day on one of these beaches.

The south coast road provided this panoramic view.

We would love to visit St John again, for perhaps a longer stay.
Back at St Thomas, we visited the sky lift near the harbour, before returning to the ship. The views were well worth the few dollars we paid to be trasported to the top.

A stormy squall was brewing while we were up there, which enabled this stunning picture.
